The Chrysler Pacifica Takes on the Honda Odyssey

When the Chrysler Pacifica was first introduced, it revolutionized the minivan segment -- as made clear by the fact that it's the most awarded minivan of both 2016 and 2017. Of course, the competitive segment features quite a few quality vehicles, including the ever-popular Honda Odyssey.

We chose to compare the two minivans, matching the Pacifica Touring L model up against the Odyssey SE. The Odyssey has a slightly lower initial MSRP, includes a CD player and has a grand total of nine more feet of cargo space, plus the Odyssey seats eight versus the Pacifica's seven. Otherwise, the two minivans are remarkably similar in features, performance and amenities -- except for very important areas where the Pacifica stands out.

Both minivans earned a 19 mpg city rating, but the Pacifica is rated to deliver better highway mpg than the Odyssey. The Pacifica's engine also delivers better power, with it's 3.6-liter V6 engine pairing to a 9-speed automatic transmission to make 287 horsepower, while the Odyssey's 3.5-liter V6 engine and 6-speed automatic produce 248 horsepower.

Lastly, the Pacifica comes with the peace-of-mind provided by 5 years and 60,000 miles (whichever comes first) of Roadside Assistance, while the Honda only covers 3 years or 36,000 miles (whichever comes first).
